Five Minute Friday: Rest

I love to write. I often worry about what you will think and your opinion of what and how I write. So, I write and delete and write and edit and delete and start over. I do, it's true.

I recently discovered this AMAZING blog by Lisa-Jo Baker. I feel like she is speaking to me. She has reminded me what it means to be moved by words. She has this AWESOME thing happening over there called Five Minute Friday, an answer to my inner writer with the permission and encouragement to write freely. It's a good way to let the real you shine through and encourage free thinking. Beautiful.

Here are the official rules:

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..
This is my first time participating and I hope those of you out there with a blog will join us, this is too cool to miss.
Here we go.
Rest. Something I chase everyday. I wake up in the morning thinking about the next time I will be able to rest and how far away that is. My brain and eyes ache just thinking about it. Then the chance to rest appears....and I don't take it. I do more of something. More dishes, more laundry, more reading, more something. I choose other things over rest even when my body and mind are crying out for just one moment of delicious rest. The chance to let go.
I just keep going. And then I crash and burn and it catches up with me. And nobody wants to be around me because I'm a grouch and a mess and a ticking time bomb.
I never realized the importance of rest until I had children. How the lack of it can make your mind play tricks on you and your emotions. It's time to put it at the top of the to do list.

  1. You've captured the essence of motherhood's chase of rest so well!

Reading your post, I can empathize with the frustrations and desire to do & be everything that a mom desires to be.

Glad I got to participate in #FiveMinuteFriday & looking forward to participating more. Hope you will too :)
